Frequently asked questions
This page answers the most common questions I receive about my RV tank cleaning training program. If you’re considering enrolling, I encourage you to read through these sections carefully to help you decide whether the training is the right fit for you.
About the training
Who is this training designed for?
This training is for RV technicians, RV inspectors, and others who want to offer tank cleaning as a professional service, either as a standalone service or as a complementary service within an existing business.
You don’t need to be an RV technician or inspector to take the training. You also don’t need to be a Registered RV Technician, Certified RV Technician, or Certified RV Inspector in order to complete the training or offer tank cleaning as a professional service.
What matters most is being willing to follow a professional process, do the work well, and communicate clearly with customers.
Is this training right for me if I’m not an RV technician?
Yes. While being an RV technician or inspector can add credibility and expand your service offerings, it’s not required to take this training or to successfully offer tank cleaning as a professional service.
In practice, your ability to get clients will depend far more on how consistently you get the word out about your service than on your credentials alone.
Training format and expectations
Is the training online or in person?
The training is 100% online and self-paced. There are no in-person classes, ride-alongs, shadowing, or live sessions included.
Being fully online allows you to move through the material at your own pace, revisit sections as needed, and fit the training around your schedule — without travel or the need to rearrange your day-to-day commitments.
Can I really learn how to clean tanks through an online training?
Yes. The training is specifically designed to be taught online, with clear instruction and demonstrations that walk through the complete tank cleaning process step by step.
Many people have successfully learned the process this way and gone on to offer tank cleaning as a professional service. The self-paced format allows you to review sections as often as needed and move through the material in a way that supports understanding and confidence, rather than trying to absorb everything at once.
When can I start the training?
Because the training is online and self-paced, you can start right away once you enroll and payment is complete. There are no set start dates.
How long does the training take?
That depends on the person.
Some people move through the training modules in a short period of time, while others work through the material gradually over several weeks or months.
In addition to the training itself, you’ll want to allow time to:
- order your equipment, and
- practice what you’ve learned once it arrives.
Because the training is self-paced, you can move through it in a way that fits your schedule and learning style.
Can you tell me what equipment I’ll need?
Yes. Equipment selection and setup are covered as part of the training.
Rather than providing a simple list on its own, the training walks through how the equipment is used, why specific components matter, and how everything works together as a system. This context helps you make informed decisions and avoid common mistakes.
Credentials, associations, and insurance
Does this training count toward Continuing Education Units (CEUs)?
Yes. This training is approved for Continuing Education Units (CEUs) through both the RV Technician Association of America (RVTAA) and the National RV Inspectors Association (NRVIA). CEU eligibility is based on your membership with the respective association.
Do I need to attend NRVTA to take this training?
No. This training is completely independent and can be taken on its own, without attending NRVTA or any other school.
Do I need to be a Registered or Certified RV Technician or Inspector?
No. Registration or certification is not required to take the training or to offer RV tank cleaning as a professional service.
Is there a benefit to attending NRVTA in addition to tank cleaning training?
For many people, yes.
Additional RV training, whether through NRVTA or another program, can add credibility, expand your service offerings, deepen your overall understanding of RV systems, and connect you with a larger network of RV technicians and inspectors.
One practical benefit of taking at least the Fundamentals class at NRVTA and becoming a Registered RV Technician is eligibility for membership in RVTAA. RVTAA members have access to a negotiated business liability insurance rate that many people find very favorable. Being part of a professional association can also open doors to referral partnerships and other opportunities over time.
That said, attending NRVTA or holding certifications is optional and not required for tank cleaning training. Many people successfully offer tank cleaning as a professional service, even without pursuing additional credentials. Whether additional training makes sense for you depends on your goals and how you want to structure your business.
What about insurance?
Insurance needs can vary depending on your business structure and the provider you choose.
Some trainees decide to become Registered RV Technicians so they can join RVTAA and access their negotiated liability insurance options. In some cases, if spouses work under the same business, coverage may extend under a shared policy.
Because insurance terms vary by provider and situation, it’s important to confirm the details directly with the insurance company or association. Ultimately, you’ll want to choose insurance coverage that’s appropriate for your business.
Marketing and business questions
Do you teach marketing or sales?
The training includes a high-level section on ways people commonly get the word out about tank cleaning, with an emphasis on education rather than persuasion. This includes approaches such as:
- visiting RV parks and campgrounds,
- connecting with RV dealers,
- networking with other RV technicians who don’t offer tank cleaning, and
- other straightforward outreach methods.
In practice, marketing tends to cost either time or money. Many people find that consistent, relationship-based outreach works well, especially when it focuses on helping customers understand the problem tank cleaning solves and why it matters.
Is the tank cleaning market already saturated?
In my experience, no.
In many areas, it’s still difficult to find a tank cleaner who can take referrals, especially outside of major metro areas. Even when I’m asked for referrals beyond my own service area, there are often very few options available.
Tank cleaning is still a relatively specialized service, and demand tends to be highly local. Whether there’s room for another tank cleaner depends on where you’re located and how you choose to offer the service, but overall, the market is far from saturated.
What do people typically charge for RV tank cleaning?
Pricing varies depending on location, travel requirements, and how the service is positioned, but most tank cleaners charge several hundred dollars per tank cleaning job.
In the training, I talk through common pricing approaches and considerations so you can think about what makes sense for your area and business model. For many people, doing a simple “break-even” calculation — how many jobs it would take to cover their initial investment — is a helpful way to evaluate whether the training feels like a good fit.
Can you guarantee I’ll be successful?
No one can guarantee business results.
What I do teach is how to clean tanks properly and professionally. What happens after that depends on how you choose to use the service within your own business.
Learning the process is an important first step, but it’s only part of the picture. How you talk about the service, how consistently you offer it, and how actively you get the word out all play a role. Those pieces are different for everyone, which is why success looks different from one person to the next.
Business identity and independence
Can I use the name “Royal Flush” for my business?
No. The name Royal Flush is not available for use by others.
This training is not a franchise, and participants are not operating under my business name, branding, or company umbrella. Everyone who completes the training builds and operates their own independent business.
The Royal Flush name is used for my own business and training program only. Part of taking the training is developing your own business identity, name, and brand that reflect how you want to operate.
Questions and communication
Can I talk to you live before enrolling?
I’m happy to answer questions by email and help clarify whether the training is a good fit.
The training itself is fully online, and being comfortable with written communication is part of what helps people do well in the program.
Do you allow shadowing or ride-alongs?
Because the training is designed to teach the complete tank cleaning process online, I don’t offer shadowing, ride-alongs, or in-person observation, either before or after training.
Being comfortable learning without in-person observation is part of determining whether this training is a good fit for you. Some people strongly prefer hands-on or in-person instruction, and if that’s important to you, a different training format may be a better fit.
Can I see your vehicle setup or equipment in person?
Most people who ask this are really trying to understand how much space the tank cleaning equipment takes up.
In general, the equipment can be accommodated in a variety of vehicles and doesn’t require a large amount of dedicated space. How it’s stored and organized depends on the type of vehicle you’re using and how you want your business to function day to day.
Equipment setup and space considerations are covered in the training. Vehicle layouts and storage solutions vary widely, and my setup reflects my specific needs and workflow rather than serving as a template for others. For most people, it’s more helpful to design a setup that fits their own vehicle and business than to try to replicate someone else’s.
Payment and access
Do you offer payment plans?
Yes, a payment plan is available.
Because the training is delivered online and provides access to all materials at once, payment must be completed in full before access is granted, including when using a payment plan. Once enrollment and payment are complete, I’ll review everything and set up your access to the training.
Do you accept checks or certified checks?
Enrollment and payment are handled online by debit or credit card only.
After the enrollment steps are completed, I manually set up access to the training. This allows me to review each enrollment and ensure everything is set up correctly. Access is typically provided within a few hours and may take up to one business day.
Can I purchase just the equipment list?
Equipment guidance is provided only as part of the complete training program.
Because the equipment is closely tied to the overall process, safety considerations, and real-world use, I don’t offer the equipment list or setup guidance separately. Teaching the full system helps people use the equipment correctly and confidently, rather than piecing things together without context.
Is this training covered by GI Bill or VA education benefits?
This training is a privately operated, independent online program and isn’t approved for GI Bill or VA education benefits.
I know this can be an important consideration, so I want to be clear about it up front.
